Monday, September 15 at 7 PM is the first installment in the Honors/Gaines Center/History Department Sponsored War and Society film series.
Former UK student Amanda Fickey is back at her alma mater this summer, teaching Appalachian history and culture to 60 high school students from Eastern Kentucky as part of UK’s Robinson Scholars Honors Program.
Recognized for his exceptional contributions to research, teaching, and administrative work, Professor of History Phil Harling has been named director of the Gaines Center for the Humanities.
Denis Goldberg is a social campaigner from South Africa who actively worked against apartheid. Goldberg was arrested and tried in the Rivonia Trial alongside Nelson Mandela, being imprisoned for 22 years before his release on the condition of his exile from South Africa.

International Ladino recording star and song writer Sarah Aroeste will speak at UK today and perform in Lexington tonight.
University of Kentucky professors Karen Petrone and Jeanmarie Rouhier-Willoughby have helped bring a distinctly Russian flavor to UK. In addition to their departments, they are both a part of the Russian Studies program and helped organize 2012's Russian-themed Passport to the World events.
An appearance by Ellen Goodman, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, author, speaker and commentator, on March 27 kicks off the two-day Conference on Political and Economic Inequality, hosted by the UK Department of History in the College of Arts and Sciences.
