Torch of Excellence Awards Ceremony

The Lyman T. Johnson Upholding the Torch of Excellence Awards were given out on October 22, 2011 as part of an African American and Africana Studies Program (AAAS) co-sponsored homecoming event. The ceremony was part of the 21st annual Lyman T. Johnson Awards Celebration – the event is named in honor of Johnson who led the fight for desegregation at UK. Johnson served as president of the Louisville N.A.A.C.P. and worked as an educator in the Louisville Public Schools for 40 years. This year’s recipients were:
